Inverted Time

Piz Dolf stands in the UNESCO Sardona Tectonic Arena, where the Glarus Thrust is exposed. Around 270-million-year-old Verrucano rock lies here above approximately 40-million-year-old Flysch – ancient rock over younger rock, formed by the collision of Africa and Europe. What otherwise remains hidden deep within the mountain becomes legible here as a line in the rock: the movement with which the Alps were formed.
