REGIONAL ROOTS AND INTERNATIONAL FOCUS
Graubünden is our home. The Alps are our everyday working landscape; we know their changing conditions across the seasons.
For other photographs, we travel further: to the Arctic, Patagonia, mountain summits and the ice. From Flims, we curate the collection and oversee the production of every work. Our photographs have received awards and been exhibited internationally.
We travel far for our works: an expedition ship in the Arctic.
WHAT THOMMEN FINE ART STANDS FOR
We create landscape works from real moments. We select each work with the same care with which it was made. Through selection, context and the craft of its final presentation, a photograph becomes a work of art.
WHEN IT HAPPENS
A single moment can produce a photograph. It becomes a work of art afterwards.
“It” is the decisive moment: the instant when form, light and atmosphere come together and the landscape reveals what we have been seeking. It cannot be planned or repeated. We recognise it only when it happens.
WHY WE PHOTOGRAPH LANDSCAPES
Because we are drawn outdoors. We go out again and again because the landscape surprises us, even where we think we know it. Outside, everything incidental falls away. What remains is the place, the light and our presence within it.
OUR STANDARD
We create works intended to endure. Whatever leaves the studio should accompany someone for years, in both its image and its craftsmanship.
Visual language
We photograph landscape as a state of being, beyond the subject alone.
Ice, water, snow, light and movement sometimes come together for a brief moment in a configuration that soon disappears. We capture this transition.
Such moments cannot be forced, but they can be recognised. You have to be there and see them when they happen.
STILLNESS
Our images are pared back. We leave out what does not belong. Empty space is part of the composition.
LIGHT
We seek the light that gives a landscape depth, direction and atmosphere. Often it is the light at the edges of the day: before sunrise, after a storm or in the mist. Work: Lightfall
FORCE
Force emerges through concentration: a ridge, an edge of ice, a line in the sand. Sometimes it is quiet; sometimes it breaks through a storm as light.
TIME
Glaciers, erosion, weather: much of what we photograph changes or disappears. The image preserves what will not recur in the same way. Work: Blue Drift
FORM
In the end, structure remains. Lines, planes and rhythm sustain the image, even after years of seeing it on the wall.

HOW WE WORK
THROUGH OUR PERSPECTIVES
Father and son, two perspectives, one shared standard of quality. We assess every photograph together. Only works that meet our standards become part of Thommen Fine Art.
THROUGH WORK IN THE FIELD
We photograph in the Alps and on expeditions, in landscapes that demand time, preparation and patience. We work with the conditions we find, wait for the right light and concentrate on what matters. Many of our works emerge only after numerous visits to the same place.
THROUGH SELECTION AND CRAFT
We assign every work to a series and an edition, giving each photograph its place within our wider body of work. Our works are produced as fine-art prints, mounted on aluminium Dibond, behind matte acrylic glass and in floating frames. Material, printing and framing are part of the work itself, as well as its presentation.

Individual works by Thommen Fine Art have been shown in international group exhibitions, including the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (2022), Bridgeport Art Center Chicago (2026), FotoZA Gallery Johannesburg (2024) and Sparks Gallery San Diego (2022).
Other locations include Stockholm (2020), Barcelona (2023), Cleveland (2023) and Manila (2024).
INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS & PUBLICATIONS
Remo Thommen received the NUII Photography Award in 2023. The international jury, led by Chris Burkard, recognised his artistic precision and technical excellence.
René Thommen has been published in international magazines, including 121clicks, Photography Week, PhotoPlus) and has received awards in landscape and travel photography competitions.
The sale of the large-format “Symphony of Silence” (3 m × 1.4 m), showing Lake Staz, led to an article in the Engadiner Post.
