Larches and water in the Upper Engadine in autumn. The still lakes near Sils and Staz reflect shores, islands and individual trees. In the Morteratsch Valley, meltwater flows through a landscape where larches now grow on land once covered by the glacier. We return to the same places over the years to show what changes with the light.
Frozen Morning
Lake Staz, Engadine. Frost and mist over the lake. The frost patterns disappear within minutes. Segantini painted in this place.
Emerging Light
Lake Sils, Engadine. Mist lifts and an island emerges into the light. Minutes later, the scene has changed.
Scar of Gold
Lake Sils, Engadine. A golden slope is crossed by the pale scar of a rock avalanche. The colour fades within weeks; the scar remains for decades.
Color Island
Lake Sils, Engadine. A small island in the lake. The rock stays the same, while the colours around it change with each autumn day.

Golden Awakening
Morteratsch valley. Larches now grow where the glacier once lay. First light falls over a landscape being colonised anew.

Morteratsch. Morning light at the pond. Reflected in it are mountains whose glaciers have been retreating for decades.
Into the Melt
Morteratsch valley. The valley bears the shape of the glacier, but its tongue is gone. Gravel, pioneer plants, larches and paths reveal a landscape in transition.
